Pakistan TVET reforms: Steps taken to improve technical education

The Express Tribune (online), 11 December 2015 - Strategies are being developed to make technical and vocation education effective, said a press release here on Thursday.

The strategies are being developed by the steering committee of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Reform Support Programme to meet the vision 2025.

The committee aims to expand the quality of technical and vocational education to increase employability and productivity, it said.

National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Executive Director Zulfiqar Cheema emphasized the need for increased private sector participation in this regard appreciating the contribution of the members towards TVET reforms.

He urged the need for upgrading the curricula to bring the skills of the work force up to international standard.

He also pledged that the commission will focus on providing training to the youth in remote areas to make them able to get sustainable livelihood.

The committee plans to delve into competency based training in TVET sector such as hospitality, paramedics, tourism.
