This workshop is jointly organized by APCICT, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion.
There will be about 40 government officials and 10 resource persons from Asia Pacific countries participating in the workshop.
The workshop will examine the importance of ICT accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Based on presentations from various countries and programmes that aims to address this issue, workshop participants will put together a strategy for enhancing ICT accessibility for PWDs in developing countries. There will also be a field visit to Mugungwha Electronics Corp in Suwon, Republic of Korea where most of its employees are PWDs.
On the final day of the workshop, APCICT will conduct an ICT training needs assessment to identity unique ICT capacity building needs of PWDs.
This workshop is part of a project implemented by the Social Development Division of ESCAP. As the project will end in December 2009, APCICT and ESCAP are exploring ways to build on the achievements of the project. One of the discussions underway is looking at utilizing the APCICT Virtual Academy (AVA), an online distance learning platform, to reach out to PWDs and strengthen their capacity in using ICT for development.
