Skills training for women migrant workers a must: Speakers
Md Shamsul Alam, director general, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), emphasized knowing and following Migration Act 2013, relevant policies and circulars for safe, orderly and regular migration specially for women migrant workers. He stressed on effective training for migrant workers on their roles during pre-departure and departure time, and in destination countries so that they can protect themselves from discrimination, mental and physical torture and abuse, and thus are able to establish their rights in all steps of migration.
Sheepa Hafiza, gender specialist and human rights activist, said that government, recruiting agents, CBOs and NGOs should work jointly for protecting women workers’ rights. She suggested involving diasporas in the process.
Nazrul Islam, director (Training) of BMET, emphaised skill based training for migrant workers. He said through government training projects they can obtain skills and efficiency to work in countries of destination.
