"India is one of the top suppliers of professional and skilled migrants having deployed some 48,000 skilled migrants between 1995 and 2005. However much of the research and available data has focused on the highly skilled migrant category with only marginal data available on the mobility of the medium skilled sector. Seeing the presence of a large reservoir of labour in India, this study explores the skilled and semi-skilled migrants in India that can meet the labour demand in Europe.
As part of its research the publication analyzes data on emerging trends and labour shortage in Europe’s labour markets. It also looks into available skills curriculum in India as well as skills development and certification systems. Other areas covered by the study include profiles and capacities of skills development institutions, work preferences, educational and vocational qualifications in India. The study concludes by formulating recommendations for policy making and to pursue the promotion of a systematic labour market information system to help facilitate and promote Indian migration to the European Union."

ADB - 2008. "This study has highlights many good practices from around the region, which provide excellent case studies. Clearly, policy makers and others need to learn from each other what works and what does not in the Pacific context. It is crucial to avoid repeating the same costly mistakes. This study does not provide a single model that will suit all countries, but it does provide a set of constructive strategies and recommendations for reform that, if acted on, could lead to significant improvements. We sincerely hope that the recommendations for projects, which could lead to the development partners providing support for TVET, would be implemented."

"This paper examines the parallel trends in education and labour market developments in Australia and Britain. It uses unique information in the WERS and HILDA surveys on reported overskilling in the workplace. To a degree, the overskilling information overcomes the problem of unobserved ability differences and focuses on the actual job-employee mismatch more than the conventional overeducation variables can. The paper finds that the prevalence of overskilling decreases with education at least for Australia, but the wage penalty associated with overskilling increases with education. Although the general patterns of overskilling (prevalence and penalties) are fairly similar between Australia and Britain, the problem appears to be greater in Britain. "

Data on persons with disabilities are hard to come by in almost every country. Specific data on their employment situation are even harder to find. Yet persons with disabilities face the same predicament everywhere. These data, culled from the media and from reports, provide an anecdotal picture of the current situation.

ILO - 2007. The Skills and Employability Department has organized a workshop which brought together experts from ILO, academics and development agencies to discuss apprenticeship as a main provider of skills and competences in the informal economy. It identified critical issues and policy challenges with regard to skills development and decent work. Furthermore, experts shared knowledge and lessons learnt in the West Africa region on effective policies and best practice to upgrade and improve apprenticeship systems.
The workshop thus contributed to fostering and informing the policy debate on apprenticeship in the informal economy and discussed apprenticeship as an entry point for ILO activities in the informal economy and Decent Work Country Programmes.

The Disability Stocktake arose out of a need to gain a better understanding of administrative data on disability. This stocktake will help to identify gaps in available data. It will also assist the Office for Disability Issues to monitor the implementation of the New Zealand Disability Strategy, and is consistent with objective 10 of the Disability Strategy, which is to “collect and use relevant information about disabled people and disability issues.” In addition, the Disability Stocktake is an initial step towards investigating the potential statistical uses of administrative data on disability and will also assist the redevelopment of the 2011 Disability Survey.
