Towards a better skilled workforce in Bangladesh RMG sector

— theme: Skills recognition and migration
— country: Bangladesh
— type: Brochures

Skills and employability are a major priority for the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Bangladesh. To address the skills gap in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh, the ILO RMG Centre of Excellence (CoE) project was launched in 2014 with the support of Sweden and international retailer H&M. To realise the objectives of this project, a new institution named Centre of Excellence for the Bangladesh Apparel Industry (CEBAI) was set up by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BGMEA). CEBAI offers market-responsive and demand-driven skills development programmes that meet nationally recognized standards. This publication captures the achievement of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) project in a number of key areas including curriculum development, the establishment of Enterprise Based Training centres and the training of garment workers, for many of whom new skills translate into higher salaries and a better life.
